EA Have A Firm Response For The Battlefield V Manbabies “Either Accept It Or Don’t Buy The Game”

EA chief creative officer Patrick Soderlund has not minced his words when responding to the small but vocal – and let’s be clear, very wrong – portion of the gaming community who complained about the inclusion of female fighters in Battlefield V.

“These are people who are uneducated—they don’t understand that this is a plausible scenario, and listen: this is a game,” Soderlund told Gamsutra “And today gaming is gender-diverse, like it hasn’t been before. There are a lot of female people who want to play, and male players who want to play as a badass [woman].”

“And we don’t take any flak. We stand up for the cause, because I think those people who don’t understand it, well, you have two choices: either accept it or don’t buy the game. I’m fine with either or. It’s just not ok,” he added.

  1. Damn right.

  2. This is the wrong attitude IMO. If they really do want to change the opinions of these so called manbabies, this isn’t the way to go about it. The linked article here at TSA is the correct approach. All EA’s response does is throw fuel on the flames and I really hope it backfires on them because they should know better. You’ll never get through to people by hurling insults. All this does is widen the divide.

    • You really think you could get through to people like that and change their opinions?

They’ve already decided either (a) they won’t buy it, because women, or (b) they say they won’t buy it, because women, but will anyway, because they just like stirring up shit on the internet.

      • Yes, I do. With the right attitude. Insulting people for their beliefs isn’t going to get anyone anywhere – however wrong you think their opinions are. Lead by example and don’t expect results overnight.

      • Well said, JR. Even if you don’t respect their opinion, respect the fact that they’re allowed it. Be calm and present facts (if possible) or as much fairness and common sense as you can.

Obviously if someone’s just a ranty fuckwit then dialogue is off the table until they calm down.

  3. Well done, EA, for once. I’m glad they didn’t give in, in the hope to save some sales of their game. If we don’t speak up against the idiots, they rule. Even if they make up the majority…

  4. Can’t say fairer than that, right?I find it remarkable that this is even a thing.

  5. As long as they look, dress & stay silent like Quiet from MGS, I haven’t got a problem with it.

    • When did she start dressing?? Did I miss something?

      • More than likely at some point in the morning – I assume after she bathed or showered.
Shame there isn’t any video footage, as then I’d be able to give you a time and date.

  6. It’s pretty simple from my perspective. If the game is trying to be historically accurate then you’d not expect to encounter female combat troops very often but the game’s certainly not angling for that so whatever takes their fancy. Aliens, females, dogs with lasers – I don’t care! It’s their alternate reality and that sits well with me. Whether it’s going to be a good game or not is something else.

    • I think their opinions on historical accuracy were summed up nicely when the idiots first started getting upset.

With a gif of 3 people. On a single horse. With flamethrowers.

Obviously, that didn’t shut them up. So we can safely assume it’s nothing to do with historical accuracy and it’s just a bunch of cockwombles getting all upset because women.

      • As I mentioned, if the game was going after that, I’d understand the backlash. However, it’s baseless as EA are going down a different path.

Strange that they – the angry part of the community – aren’t able to separate fact from fiction when it’s clear EA aren’t trying to adhere to history verbatim.
