Back in 2003, Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles was a spin off from the main series that saw Square dabbling with a return to Nintendo’s consoles, only to spawn a string of sequels for Nintendo DS and Wii. Also, they were struggling after The Spirits Within totally bombed as a film, so asked Nintendo to fund and publish at the time.

What’s interesting about this is that the original game featured multiplayer using the Game Boy Advance and link cables to the GameCube. The trailer indicates that multiplayer will still be a facet of the game, but whether it leans on online play, ad hoc multiplayer with Switch or if the game has been tweaked so that a second screen isn’t needed.
