Trion Worlds have been spinning a lot of plates over the last few years, from redeveloping its TV spin-off Defiance to their voxel-based MMO Trove, fantasy MMO Devilian, ArcheAge, Atlas Reactor and more. They’ve been busy bees, but following an acquisition by Gamigo reports have now emerged of sweeping layoffs affecting the company.
In a press release, it was announced that Trion has been acquired through an “Assignment for the Benefit of the Creditors”, in which Gamigo got to pick and choose what it wanted to keep. This has included many of the assets, the platform, full publishing rights and employees of the company.
A statement to the community from Trion Worlds admits that “there has been a transaction involving Trion Worlds and its games.” They’ve not talked about the extent of the layoffs, but did say that “”while many of the names and faces you’ve come to know in our studios will remain on through this transition, others will not be making the journey. To those who are leaving us, we are forever grateful for your incredible work and contributions over the years.”
A source has said that, of the more than 200 people that were previously employed at their two offices, just 25 now remain. This has loosely been confimed by former director of community relations Linda “Brasse” Carlson, who said, “a great many of us are packing to leave today.” She does strike an optimistic tone that Gamigo continue to look after the games, but these are certainly concerning times for the communities built around Trion’s many games.
