Stellaris has always been about civilisations as they venture out into space, whether they’re xenophobic insects, peace-loving sea creatures, or all murdering AI. But what if it were businesses looking to the stars and seeing endless opportunities? How wonderfully dystopian!
Stellaris: MegaCorp is all about shaking up the game’s economy, let you have CEOs of a MegaCorp that can conduct business across the galaxy, set up branches on different planets and add trade value. On the other end of the scale, Caravaneer fleets are nomadic Del Boy-style wheeler-dealers always looking to cut you a bargain when they come by.
Leaning into that dystopian vibe, you’ll be able to create Ecumenopolis city worlds, built more megastructures like the Matter Decompressor, Mega-Art Installation or Strategic Coordination Center, and become a slave trader on a vast scale. I’m not so sure about that last one…
As always, the paid expansion will be accompanied by a free update that has its own new features, but there’s no indication on when this will all be available. Oh, it’s worth noting that MegaCorp is an expansion for the PC version of the game, with the console version that’s coming in Q1 2019 a separate branch that will receive expansions at its own pace.
