Treyarch Ease The Grind In Black Ops 4’s Black Market, Up The Server Tick Rate

There was a pretty big update to Black Ops 4 last week, launching the first season of live updates and content and bringing the Black Market and a long stream of collectables and unlockable cosmetics through it. The only problem was that, alongside the 20Hz server tick rate, it only gave people more things to complain about online.

To be fair, they had a damn good point, as the 200 tiers of unlocks in the Black Market would take far, far too long to run through. That was calculated to being about eight hours every day for the duration of the event. Thankfully Treyarch have reacted with an update last night to reduce the amount of grind quite significantly, making it go by about 25% quicker, depending on the game mode played. It’s still an awful lot of grind, but more manageable.

They’ve also addressed complaints surrounding the server tick rate, which it came out over the weekend was running at a measly 20Hz. That’s been bumped up to 30Hz as the first step of a controlled ramp up – this has already effectively increased server load by 50% as a consequence – though it’s not clear yet if this is purely for multiplayer or also Blackout

Finally, for lone wolf players out there, a new Mercenary Capture Moshpit playlist includes a variety of 5v5 objective game modes with no parties allowed.

Known issues:

  • Blackout Audio Adjustments
    • We are making several updates to audio in Blackout based upon our testing and feedback from the community to deliver the soundscape our players expect in Blackout. Look for this update to drop in the next week.
  • Blackout Quads Performance
    • We’re continuing to investigate occasional hitches in performance in Blackout Quads playlists, particularly on Xbox One. As we’ve mentioned before, though this hasn’t proven easily replicable during testing, we’re committed to tracking down the cause and squashing it.
  • Zombies Host Migration
    • We’re aware that matches in Zombies have been ending when the host leaves the game, and we’re planning a future update to address this. Thanks for your patience as we work on the solution.
