Is Troy Baker Suggesting Death Stranding Will Be Out This Year?

Fan favourite voice over artist Troy Baker has tweeted am image of his character Snow from Final Fantasy XIII and the mysterious character with a gold mask he plays in Death Stranding. Nothing too peculiar about that, it’s the text underneath that has led to speculation.

Troy has captioned the image #2009vs2019…?, and as Final Fantasy XIII came out in 2009 logic suggests that Troy has revealed Death Stranding is out this year.

Troy is somewhat of a veteran so I wouldn’t expect him slip up and reveal a release date, but you never know.

A recent edition of Famitsu magazine had a New year’s message from Kojima, “Is 2019 the Year of the Whale? Please look forward to Death Stranding!” which could also indicate a 2019 release. There again he’s asking a question rather than stating a fact so it’s very ambiguous.

In summary: We still know absolutely nothing about Death Stranding. Business as usual.

  1. Bit of a leap there, isn’t it? FF13 was released in 2009 (or 2010 here), so that date makes sense. And it’s currently 2019, even if some people may get confused and think it’s still 2018 until at least the middle of February.

Putting the current year next to the picture a character from an unreleased game doesn’t suggest anything. If he’d put 2020 there, that would be more convincing.

Jumping to any other conclusion is the sort of click-bait nonsense I thought you guys were above.

And coming to any conclusion based on what Kojima has said anywhere seems a bad idea too. Although I’m happy to jump to conclusions from his pictures of his shopping trip with reformed 90s shoegazers Slowdive. (Ask a grown-up if you don’t know what any of those words mean ;)
