NieR: Automata coming to Final Fantasy XIV

It’s Saturday morning and we’re coming to you live from the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival in Paris. Game Director and Producer, Naoki Yoshida, has just closed out the event’s keynote speech having announced a bevy of new features and updates coming to XIV in the build up to its Shadowbringers expanion and beyond.

17 Things You Need To Know About Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers

One announcement that saw the room erupt was the reveal of new Alliance Raids. Bonus end-game content is music to the ears of XIV’s die-hard fanbase but these events are particularly special to the community, having drafted in the design talent of guest creators.

Joining their ranks is Yosuke Saito and Yoko Taro, the creators of NieR. The eccentric pair appeared in a brief video to tease the new raid though, naturally, we’ll have to wait to get a full run down of the details and how the team at Square are merging Nier with the wider Final Fantasy XIV universe.

What we do have is a title, “YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse” and the key art shown above. From the grim industrial backdrop to the quaint costumes and weapon choices, it certainly has an Automata vibe about it and we’re sure Yoko Taro will find an amusing way to crowbar this content into the NieR/Drakengard timeline.

Final Fantasy XIV Shadowbringers launches worldwide on July 2nd, 2019. Pre-orders open next week on February 6th.
