Codemasters are marking the 10th anniversary of their F1 video game series in style with not one, not two, but three major announcements for F1 2019. The game will be coming out earlier in the season than any Codemasters F1 game has managed before, launching in June for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
The fan favourite is sure to be the inclusion of the Formula 2 championship, through which most young drivers have progressed, including this year’s F1 rookies George Russell, Lando Norris and Alexander Albon. It will be integrated into the career mode, so you can compete against those three in the F2 2018 season before moving into the current F1 season. Later in the year, the 2019 F2 season will be added digitally into the game.
The other two announcements step back into history. If you buy the Anniversary Edition of the game, you’ll receive the 2010 season Ferrari F10, as driven by Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa, and the McLaren MP4-25 that Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button both drove. They join the championship winning Red Bull RB6, which was featured in last year’s game. They’ll be available for purchase separately at a later date.
Lastly, the Legends Edition of F1 2019 brings the classic rivalry of Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost back to life, featuring Senna’s 1990 McLaren MP4/5B and Prost’s Ferrari F1-90. You’ll be able to race in eight challenges, as well as receive special Senna and Prost multiplayer liveries. Their likenesses have also been added into the career mode.
F1 2019 is out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on 28th June, but buying the Legends Edition will get you the game on 25th June instead.
