The sequel to the cult classic Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines was announced back at GDC in March, and since then publisher Paradox Interactive and developer Hardsuit Labs have been keen to introduce or reintroduce people to the world. It’s been fifteen years, after all, and for us mere mortals that’s a pretty long time!
This is a full sequel to the first game, with a reactive story, plenty of shady characters to deal with and fast-paced melee combat based around various vampiric abilities.
One of the things you’ll have to decide is which clan to join, each of which has different powers and backgrounds that will tie into the story. The first of these was the Brujah, known as “The Rabble” to other vampires. The leftovers from a failed Anarch movement, they gather together at a Bash, which is like a vampire fight club, and test their physical strength.
Their abilities include being able to punch walls into rubble, smash the ground to create a shockwave, dash and attack with unseeable speed, and accelerate Quicksilver style so that the world appears in slow motion.
Next up were the Tremere, the wizards of the vampire world. They’re typically distrusted by others, even as they’re respected for their powers.
The Tremere use blood magic for their attacks. Skewer throws a puddle of blood at an enemy’s feet, which then springs into razor-sharp spikes before returning to the caster, while they can also cause others to vomit up blood or cause their blood to boil.
Their other magical abilities allow them to see NPCs through walls, mark individuals and read crowds, not to mention being able to detach their astral form form their body and explore the world unnoticed.
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is coming to consoles and PC in 2020.
