There seems to be almost as many The Walking Dead games as there are zombies these days and yet another one has been announced by AMC and Survios, the developers of Raw Data and Creed: Rise to Glory.
The Walking Dead Onslaught, and no, there’s no semi-colon which makes the title very odd, has been announced for VR platforms and will be released sometime later this year. However, unlike every other The Walking Dead game in this one you get to play as some of the stars of the show including Rick Grimes and Michonne. Presumably that means that means the game won’t be part of the cannon.
The game is said to have “visceral real-motion melee and ranged combat” and a full campaign mode, although the teaser trailer is a just a pre-rendered swoop through a diner. Although no platforms have been announced both Creed and Raw Data are available on PlayStation VR so I would expect The Walking Dead Onslaught to make it to Sony’s hat along with the many variations of Oculus that are around these days.
Starbreeze had a Walking Dead VR game on the way for their Starbreeze VR headset before they encountered finacial troubles and lost the license, and you may have forgotten that The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners was also announced for VR devices last year.
That game is being created by Skydance, owned by Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkland, so he seems to have licensed another VR game that will launch around the same time as his which is rather odd.
Saints & Sinners is described thus: “Set in the flooded remains of New Orleans, the game will challenge players to make their way through the iconic quarters, as they explore what has become a brutal, unforgiving wasteland.”
Are you looking forward to two slices of Walking Dead virtual reality?
