One of the more unusual games of last year, Where the Water Tastes Like Wine shone in its narrative exploration of American folklore and music. Now, with the release of a free Gold Mountain expansion, it’s folding in new stories and the experiences and culture of Chinese Americans through American history.
Conveniently timed to coincide with the new content, Where the Water Tastes Like Wine is on sale on Steam with 60% off until tomorrow for Windows, Mac and Linux via Steam, while the free standalone companion, Where The Water Tastes Like Wine: Fireside Chats is also available.
While not the most action packed adventure out there, Where the Water Tastes Like Wine was easily one of our favourite narrative journeys of 2018. In our review, Steve wrote “It is a game that should be played by many, but that will probably frustrate as many as it ensnares. It more than lived up to my expectations and if you are interested in exploring the ways in which games can go beyond other media in their use of narrative then it is unmissable.”
