Happy days are here again, we’re getting a new Transformers game! Before we get to that we need to muddle through some corporate waffle and piece things together, so here we go.
In 2017 Leyou Technologies Holdings Limited announced that it had acquired a minority stake in Certain Affinity, Austin’s largest independent video game developer. Leyou already part own Canadian developer Digital Extremes the developer and publisher of Warframe, British games developer Splash Damage, and through their new Athlon Games label, revealed a large free to play title based on Lord of the Rings. Leyou originally started out as a supplier of chicken for Chinese KFC restaurants but diversified in to video games.
Earlier this year leaks suggested that Certain Affinity were working on a new third or first person shooter called Transformers Online and the game was officially announced by Leyou at the recent Chinajoy 2019 convention. They specifically stated that Certain Affinity wasworking on the the game which is for consoles and PC and will be free to play, and looks to be based on Generation 1 as the press document included the following:
The TRANSFORMERS property, including associated logos, copyrights, and characters and their respective likenesses (as portrayed in products sold during the period beginning 1984 and ending 1995 sometimes referred to as “TRANSFORMERS GENERATION I” and which may also include iconography and various stylized iterations of the same created such as TRANSFORMERS GENERATIONS launched in 2010 and relaunched in 2012.
Lovely stuff, but a game in China is no good for us. So we asked Max Hoberman, president and founder of Certain Affinity, if the title may see the light of day on our shores.
I can't say what we're working on (yet!), except that we have multiple projects in development and all of them are for a Western market or a worldwide market – none are for China first.

Although Leyou seem to be happy talk about Transformers Online, Certain Affinity can not, but we know they are working on it and thanks to that tweet we know it’s heading here! Woo!
Certain Affinity has worked on a number big games including entries in the Halo series, Doom, and Call of Duty. It has previously released Age of Booty via Capcom on last gen consoles and is also working on its own IP, Last Expedition, for current gen consoles and PC. Max was formerly the multiplayer and online lead at Bungie so the team working on the game have experience on working on epic online shooters.
