Buckle up Crash Team Racing fans, we’re about to throw down in yet another Grand Prix season. This time there’s a twist: we’ll be visiting Spyro in a nostalgia fuelled crossover as we journey into the Dragon Realm.
“Spyro & Friends” will be the third Grand Prix season since the game launched back in June and those who have been racing away online should know the drill by now. Each season in the Twilight Tour offers a bevy of unlocks for players to work towards including new characters, karts, decals, and other cosmetic bonuses.
Somewhat akin to the “battle pass” system we see in live games such as Fortnite, PUBG, and many, many others, you’ll unlock these rewards through simply playing as well as completing a rotating pool of challenges to earn Nitro Points.
The previous season, dubbed “Back N. Time”, had a fun and distinctive prehistoric theme. Meanwhile the Spyro Circuit is teasing us with a number of familiar characters such as Hunter, Gnasty Gnorc, and the purple dragon himself. Other items includes paint jobs, karts, decals, and racer skin which have a fitting fantasy streak to them.
To top it off, developer Beenox is adding another brand new map to Nitro-Fuelled. Spyro Circuit is an unabashed love letter to the PlayStation platforming classic franchise, leading players through portals from one recognisable locale to the next. Some visual elements such as Wumpa fruits and weapon crates have even been spiced up to suit the Spyro theme.
The new season kicks off this Friday, on August 30th, and will likely run through most of September. If we had to hazard guess, we’d say the season will end on September 22nd.
