Humanity looks like Pikmin & Lemmings on acid

The next game from Enhance Inc. was revealed in tonight’s State of Play. Humanity is in development by Tha Ltd with assistance and publishing by Enhance Inc, and features unusual crowd battling mechanics that immediately bring the likes of Pikmin and Lemmings to mind.

Humanity is out in 2020 for PlayStation 4 with optional PlayStation VR support.

The puzzles seem to get pretty dark at times, with crowds of human characters rushing at others cutting them down with guns. Yeah. It’s quite surprisingly grim when you think about it…

Still, it’s clear that this has certain notes of the synaesthesia affected gameplay, which has been a staple of Mizuguchi’s work. His most recent work was the critically acclaimed Tetris Effect, which launched last year for PS4 and PSVR before eventually spreading to other platforms. However it’s Yugo Nakamura and his team tha ltd. combining with Japanese musician Cornelius leading the project.

“From the first early demo I saw, I couldn’t get HUMANITY out of my head,” says Enhance Founder and CEO Tetsuya Mizuguchi. “The whole look and feel of it—manipulating these teeming masses of people—was mesmerizing, especially in VR. I knew right away it could be something special, which is why I couldn’t be more excited to help a visionary like Yugo-san realise its full potential.”
