October’s Games with Gold includes Friday the 13th: The Game

Microsoft have unveiled the selection of games set to appear in October’s Games with Gold haul for Xbox Live Gold subscribers. As always there’s two Xbox One games and two Xbox 360 games available with Backward Compatibility support, and with the spooktacular Halloween holiday fast approaching, they’ve put a scary game in the mix.

The month starts off with Tembo the Badass Elephant, but the release of Games with Gold freebies is staggered, so you’ll have to wait until Wednesday 16th before you can grab the hit asymmetrical multiplayer game Friday the 13th: The Game. Joining these two games are Disney Bole and Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor’s Edge from the Xbox 360 back catalogue.

All in all, not the most inspiring of selections, even when compared to the hit or miss PlayStation Plus selection for October.

The full dates of availability are below.

Also, don’t forget that you can currently pick up the following:

Looking back on Friday the 13th, we stacked the game up against the conceptually similar Dead by Daylight when the games came out in 2017. As we said of the game at the time, “Although still rough around the edges, it captures that slasher flick vibe perfectly with its tense build up and terrifying set pieces.”

Tembo, meanwhile, arrived way back in 2015, coming from Pokémon developer Game Freak. It failed to grab us quite like Jason did, with our review saying, “It is an incredibly nice looking and sounding game, and when everything falls into place Tembo is a joy to play, but these instances are rare. The poor control scheme mixed with stupidly hard late levels, which almost caused me to destroy my controller, take major points away from what could have been a promising game.”
