Details have been revealed for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s Special Ops mode which will be available on all platforms at launch, unlike the Survival mode which is a PS4 timed exclusive. Previously Spec Ops mode has separate missions but in Modern Warfare there are Operations that are interconnected. In Operations teams of four will move through maps aiming to get through multiple stages, with teams able to choose how to tackle them from sneaking in to going all-out assault.
There will be four Operations available at launch with more added in post-launch content. Missions are the other way to play experience Spec Ops mode and these can be tackled alone or with up to four players, and are the classic approach with star ratings, specific loadouts for each mission, and only certain ways to approach an objective. In both operations and missions, killstreaks will be available though they are more limited in the latter. In Operations killstreaks are chosen before the game starts but you have to find them on the map instead of having them activate after a certain number of kills.
Special Ops will have specific roles players have to pick with these being Assault, Recon, Engineer, Demolition, Medic, and Heavy. Each one has a specific perk and field upgrades to use. Survival mode is a horde mode where teams of four face off against increasingly difficult waves of enemies, and the mode will have three maps.
Activision also revealed Call of Duty League, a professional esports competition, in which 12 teams from Atalanta, Chicago, Dallas, Florida, Los Angeles, Minnesota, London, Paris, New York, Seattle, and Toronto.
Matches will be 5v5 affairs played on PS4 with the league travelling across the locations where the teams are from. The teams will be competing for a $6 million prize pool.
