CJ voice actor dismisses Grand Theft Auto 6 rumours, has beef with Rockstar Games

Rapper Young Malay, the voice of  Carl “CJ” Johnson in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has taken to Instagram to respond to numerous rumours that he is to reprise his role for Grand Theft Auto IV.

He posted a screenshot of a site reporting on Grand Theft Auto 6 and commented “To kill the rumours! Im not involved in GTA VI at all.. Fucc @Rockstargames peroid.. CJ will have to be voiced by another MF but not me IDGAF what yall heard.”

It appears the rapper, real name Chris Bellard, has had had a falling out with Rockstar and does not wish to be associated with them anymore.

I should point out that the raft of Grand Theft Auto 6 posts just before Christmas were almost certainly all click bait just to ensure sites were getting traffic over the holiday period when their staff were off, so Young Malay is getting annoyed over nothing. The tabloids are terrible at this sort of thing, “GTA 6 release date news!” screams the headline on the Daily Express,

GTA 6 release date news is headlined today with a popular Grand Theft Auto rumour which has been killed off. The new year begins as the previous one finished, with plenty of rumours swirling around Grand Theft Auto 6. Rockstar Games are yet to confirm that GTA 6 actually exists.

Good grief.

Apparently an anonymous source dumped some text in Pastebin that claimed Grand Theft Auto 6 would be a timed exclusive launch title for the PlayStation 5. Rather amazingly that is the same rumour that went around when the PlayStation 4 was close to reveal.

Grand Theft Auto V has sold over 90 million copies and made over 6 billion dollars, Grand Theft Auto VI will sell a huge number as well so for Sony to pay Rockstar for exclusivity they would be spending hundreds of millions of dollars.

Sony have got all their first party studios working on games for the console so it won’t be short of exclusives when it launches, GTA6 would be a great addition but economically it’s just not viable.

Also, Rockstar take at least four years to create games and Red Dead 2 was out at the end of 2018 so there is no way Grand Theft Auto VI is arriving in 2020, Christmas 2022 at the very earliest but I would bet on 2023.

  1. After reading his post, his name should be Chris Bellend, not Bellard.
