Treyarch will be at the helm for the first Call of Duty of the 2020’s and we may have just got the first clue of what to expect in the game, or more to the point what not to expect. Over the weekend David Vonderhaar, Treyarch’s Game Design Director, was tweeted at demanding that jetpacks be put in the next Call of Duty. The answer was a firm no in response.
NO.

Such short-term memories. You hung me from the highest branch. No. NO. I have PTSD.

So, basically don’t expect Treyarch’s new Call of Duty to feature jetpacks as the team is still dealing with the aftermath of introducing the jetpacks previously. What can we expect then? Well, we have no idea bar it is very likely that it will be another Black Ops title. There are also rumours that the game will be set in the Cold War instead of the near future, which would make jetpacks pretty much unfeasible given the setting. Blackout was a popular mode in Black Ops 4 so it would be surprising to see that not make an appearance in the next game.
Whatever Treyarch is working on it’ll have a big act to follow as Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare has been very popular. It was both the Christmas and New Year’s number one title. In our review for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Jim wrote:
Infinity Ward was never going to recapture the magic of the original Modern Warfare, but this is still their most memorable Call of Duty game of the past decade. This is a bold new spin that’s uneven in places, but proves there is still room for innovation within that core template.
