Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War is this year’s CoD according to leak

With Call of Duty games typically launching in October or November, we should be due for a new instalment in the power-selling franchise in just a few months’ time. However, Activision have been unusually tight-lipped in talking about 2020’s Call of Duty sequel.

We’ve seen a number of reported leaks hinting at where the next Call of Duty will take fans, this latest one stripped from a Doritos cross promotion with the first person shooter series. Spotted by Call of Duty news source, ModernWarzone, two images clearly show what appears to be a logo for Call of Duty: Black Ops – Cold War.

We’ve seen similar cross promotions with Doritos, Mountain Dew, and past Call of Duty games, dishing out double XP codes for those looking to wash down their tortilla chips with a super sugary energy drink.

Of course, Activision haven’t commented on this supposed leak. Although it seems plausible with the Cold War name linking to previous Call of Duty 2020 rumours, there’s a chance this could well be an elaborate hoax so, as always, take this latest new with a grain of salt.

Earlier this year, a mysterious listing titled “The Red Door” appeared on the Xbox Games Store before disappearing. The Red Door was referenced in a similar listing that cropped up on the PlayStation Store with the file name “COD2020INTALPHA1“.

Typically, the Call of Duty series has been juggled between three Activision studios, churning out one annualised sequel on a three-year development cycle. World War II and Advanced Warfare team, Sledgehammer Games, were originally due to release their next Call of Duty title this year but Treyarch have now taken the reins. Since 2010, they have continued to work on the Black Ops branch of the Call of Duty franchise. With last year’s Modern Warfare reboot having been a roaring critical and commercial success, we can definitely see Treyarch going back to where Black Ops started, The Cold War, for Call of Duty 2020.
