A guide to Destiny 2’s Iron Banner Light the Fires quest

It’s Iron Banner time again in Destiny 2, as evil-witch-in-disguise Eva Levante has left the tower and took her naff baking oven with her – good riddance! In her stead the magnificent Lord Saladin has returned with the Iron Banner and a very annoying quest which blocks you from gaining any rewards.

Chances are regular players will have completed this the first time the Iron Banner was around this season, but if you’ve got some catching up to do, the quest steps are outlined below.

Thankfully your progress carries over through each quest step, so if you plan ahead and use the weapons required in the earlier steps, you can get a head start on later steps and whizz through the requirements.

Step 1: Light the Fires

Head to the Tower to pick up the Light Fires quest from Lord Saladin and then “At any time during Season 9, defeat opponents, capture zones, and land Super final blows in the Iron Banner.”

  • Capture 10 zones
  • Defeat 30 opponents
  • Defeat 3 opponents with your Super

Step 2: Iron Sights

“At any time during Season 9, complete matches, capture zones, and land final blows using Scout Rifles in the Iron Banner.”

  • Capture 20 zones
  • Complete 6 matches
  • Defeat 25 opponents with a Scout Rifle

MIDA Multi-Tool or Randy’s Throwing Knife are good choices for Scout Rifle, but if you are feeling lazy, the new Symmetry Exotic Scout Rifle fires homing Arc bursts at your enemies.

Step 3: Pumping Iron

“At any time during Season 9, defeat opponents, capture zones, and land final blows using Shotguns in the Iron Banner.”

  • Capture 30 zones
  • Defeat 100 opponents
  • Defeat 20 enemies with Shotguns

We recommend Dust Rock Blues or Lord of Wolves for the Shotgun portion of this step. It’s not too much of a grind and you should be able to do it in six or seven games if you’re handy with a gun.

Step 4: Death Metal

“At any time during Season 9, capture zones, land final blows using Hand Cannons, and land Super final blows in the Iron Banner.”

  • Capture 40 zones
  • Defeat 15 opponents with your Super
  • Defeat 15 enemies with Hand Cannons

Ugh, who uses hand cannons in the Crucible? Ace of Spades or the relatively new Eriana’s Vow should be your weapon of choice here.

Step 5: Iron Rain

“At any time during Season 9, complete matches, capture zones, and land final blows using Rocket Launchers in the Iron Banner.”

  • Capture 50 zones
  • Complete 15 matches
  • Defeat 10 enemies with Rocket Launchers

Almost there, it’s time to dig out a rocket launcher, anything with tracking and cluster bombs is good (Drifter has one such weapon), or if you want to annoy everyone on the opposing team just dig out the Wardcliff Coil.

That’s it! Grind that lot and you can start getting packages from Saladin. As usual he will also be offering bounties with Pinnacle rewards, one of the few places those who play solo can gain the top tier light empowering weapons and armour.
