Vermintide 2’s Winds of Magic expansion arrives on PS4

If you were getting tired of slaughtering Skaven grunts and their Chaos allies by the dozen then you’ll be all over Winds of Magic, Vermintide II’s first major expansion.

PlayStation 4 slayers have had to wait a little longer for this latest content drop which was originally planned for last December.

The first expansion for Warhammer: Vermintide 2 brings a brand new enemy faction and new challenges to the game. As a meteor crashes down in the Reikland, Beastmen emerge from the depths of the Reikwald forest and rush to the epicenter to claim it as a Herdstone. It is up to the five heroes to stop them before a dreadful disaster strikes the Empire.

Offering up a new enemy faction, map, modes, and weapons, hopefully it will have been worth the wait. You can purchase it now for £15.99 via the PlayStation Network (it’s also available for the Xbox One and PC versions).

Up top we have the arrival of the Beastmen, a primal horde of raging furries ready to rip you and companions apart. Fans of the Warhammer Fantasy tabletop game will be able to pick out the various type of Beastmen from among the herd including the Gors and Ungor, as well as the armoured Bestigors and even the odd Minotaur.

Those looking to further customize their heroes will want to try out each of their new weapons including Sienna’s flail, Bardin’s throwing axes, Victor’s billhook, Markus’s heavy spear, and Kerillian’s spear and shield combo.

It wouldn’t be a proper expansion without a new level, “Dark Omens” conjuring up a scenario in which Vermintide’s ragtag team go head to head with the Beastmen.

Winds of Magic also happens to be the name of a new game mode. Designed with replayability in mind, it will slap together a random chunks of existing maps, as well as modifiers and objectives, capped by a climactic finale.

For those wanting to put their skills to the test, Vermintide II also has a new “Cataclysm” difficulty mode.
