Why release one gameplay video when you can release ten all at once? That seems to be the thinking behind whoever’s running the Microsoft Flight Simulator YouTube account, as they’ve just dropped ten new development videos online, ranging from 5 seconds long to 61 seconds.
See what I mean? Blink and you’ll miss it, and there’s nine more videos just like that below.
Still, I suppose it does the trick, as they show an impressive range and variety to what you can see in game. The videos hop around the globe, featuring different aircraft, different scenarios, and different times of day and of year. The game is built off impressive new cloud-based technology, streaming data to your computer or console in real time, with AI used to extrapolate geometry from a blend of satellite and flyover imagery. Combine that with real time lighting effects and dynamic weather, and you’ve got a truly stunning looking game.
All of these videos are actually taken from the Xbox Insider page for Microsoft Flight Simulator, with public testing of the game set to get underway soon. Those went up on the game’s website this time last week, so it’s anybody’s guess as to why they’ve now been posted onto YouTube in a Development Video playlist without any further editing.
Anyway, check out all the rest of these sublime, gorgeous gameplay videos:
I previewed Microsoft Flight Simulator at XO19, saying, “I came away from Flight Simulator very impressed. The series evolved a great deal from its humble beginnings in the 80s through to Flight Simulator X in 2006, and that style of flight sim continued with games like X-Plane and Aerofly, but Flight Simulator is something else entirely with its worldwide scope. This is absolutely one to keep an eye on in 2020.”
