SEGA has announced it is taking a further step to reduce its plastic waste by confirming that all future physical PC releases will be packed in boxes made from recycled materials. This is a move that SEGA experimented with when it released Football Manager 2020, which was packed in a recycled package. That has obviously been worthwhile enough for SEGA to roll out the change to the other games on PC. Total War: Rome II Enemy at the Gates edition will be the next title to get a recycled package.
We're pleased to announce that all of our future physical releases of PC games will be launched in fully recycled packaging!

This is a good start by the industry but the PC physical sales are outshone by platforms such as PS4, Xbox One, and Switch with those platform cases all being plastic. However, as more and more people switch to digital purchases there will be fewer of these boxes out there. Of course, the physical market isn’t disappearing worldwide anytime soon so it could be worthwhile for the likes of Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo as platform holders and third-party publishers like Ubisoft, EA, and Bethesda to investigate a switch over.
