Resident Evil Resistance will be the multiplayer portion being bundled in with Resident Evil 3. It is an asymmetrical experience where a group of survivors has to work together to escape from a facility filled with dangers. It seems like a simple enough if dangerous job but there is a realm of unpredictability as another player takes on the role of the Mastermind. The Mastermind’s role is to add traps to the facility, block off escape routes, and stop the survivors from getting away.
Capcom has revealed two characters that players will be able to choose to act in the Mastermind role. One of these is Alex Wesker, the antagonist of Resident Evil Revelations 2. She has a manipulative toolset at her disposal with her playstyle being focused on setting traps instead of just chucking dangers at the survivors. One of her main weapons is Yateveo, a biological plant that can block paths. It doesn’t move but still presents a danger.
Ozwell E. Spencer is the other Mastermind unveiled by Capcom. He has been a mostly shadowy figure throughout the Resident Evil franchise, though he was instrumental in the founding and rise of Umbrella. His main trap of choice is the Disintegration Field which can do a lot of damage to the survivors. It is even more dangerous in that it has no effect on any of the creatures in this maze, so a good Spencer player could direct survivors towards this field and then funnel in creatures after them for maximum damage. Even worse for survivors is that the Disintegration Field has a very short cooldown so it can be used pretty often.
While Resident Evil 3 does follow a set canon Resident Evil Resistance exists as a non-canon property allowing the developers to experiment with it. Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil Resistance will be available on April 3rd for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
