Resident Evil 3 on PS5 – how to upgrade for free

How do you upgrade Resident Evil 3 on PS5? In case you missed it, Capcom has relaunched its survival horror sequel on current-gen systems with a whole host of improvements. The best bit? You can get your hands on the PS5 version for free if you already purchased it on PS4.

During the Capcom summer showcase event, it announced a trio of updated Resident Evil titles for current-gen consoles. These include Resident Evil 2, as well as Resident Evil 3 and Resident Evil 7 – according to the Official PlayStation Blog “these upgrades include features such as ray traced visuals, 3D Audio and DualSense wireless controller support that will offer deeper levels of immersion”.

For those who didn’t complete Resident Evil 3, you can also carry over your PS4 save data. So, how do you get your free copy of Resident Evil 3 on PS5? Simply follow the instructions below.

Upgrade Resident Evil 3 on disc

  1. Sign into your PSN account on PS5
  2. Insert the PS4 disc of Resident Evil 3
  3. Open the Resident Evil 3 game hub and find the upgrade offer
  4. Select Download
  5. You can now download the PS5 version of the game, but will need the PS4 disc inserted in order to play

Upgrade the digital version of Resident Evil 3

  1. Sign into your PSN account on PS5
  2. Find Resident Evil 3 in the PlayStation Store or find the game hub in your game library
  3. Open the Resident Evil 3 game hub and find the upgrade offer
  4. Select Download or Add to Library
  5. You can now download the PS5 version of the game and play
