Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s battle royale mode Warzone is perhaps one of the current worst kept secrets, with various leaks and reports coming out. The latest, courtesy of VGC, focuses on the release date with sources suggesting that the mode will be released at some point in mid-March. According to VGC, the Warzone mode will also be a free to play title and will not require people to own Modern Warfare. Instead, it appears Activision will be going down the Call of Duty: Mobile route with Warzone to get people involved with the series even if they don’t own the latest Call of Duty title.
The map has also apparently leaked and looks as follows:
The game mode will allegedly support up to 200 players and these players will be in squads. There are also a couple of new features in Warzone to differentiate from other Battle Royale modes. The first is the Gulag where players are apparently sent after being killed. However, you only enter the Gulag if a teammate gets you to an ambulance. In the Gulag, players can take part in a 1v1 match with the winner being set back into the arena. Another change is an in-match currency called Plunder which can be used to get bonuses during a game, but if you’re killed you lose that currency. There is a chance to bank the Plunder but everyone becomes alerted if you attempt to do so, so there is a lot of danger in going to the bank.
It is likely we will find out from an official announcement in the next week or so to drum up awareness for the mode by Activision and Infinity Ward.
