Originally planned for Spring this year, they’ve taken the decision to ensure that the game is polished and lives up to its potential. That’s understandable given the large number of moving parts within the game. Set in Prohibition-era Chicago, you’re building a criminal empire, balancing management with wading into turn-based tactical battles as you seek to dominate the neighbourhood. It’s a deeply systemic game, with lots of depth to the characters you can recruit and their relationships.
Ebba Ljungerud, CEO at Paradox said, “We at Paradox Interactive, along with our partners at Romero Games, have an ambitious vision for Empire of Sin and decided together that more development time is needed. This will allow us to deliver the game that our community deserves and meets our standards.”
Brenda Romero of Romero Games added, “The challenges in making a game like no-one has made before is exactly that – making a game no-one has made before. It takes time to get everything right and presents us with some unique opportunities. I am grateful we are taking the additional time to polish.”

You might also note a lack of specificity over the console platforms. Instead of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the press release states “Xbox and PlayStation”. With the game being pushed back to autumn, this could well see it launch around the next generation consoles and see Romero Games adjusting to ensure that next gen is fully supported beyond simple backward compatibility. Given that neither next gen console has been fully revealed, we can still only really speculate as to what next gen support might entail for developers.
