UK Charts 07/03/20 – Pokémon Mystery Dungeon catches the top spot

There’s not been much mystery or surprise to the games topping the UK retail charts in recent weeks, as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and FIFA 20 have continued their running scuffle over the top spot, but Nintendo have seen fit to spice things up.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX has topped the charts, doing far better than its 3DS predecessor Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, which debuted in 9th back in 2016. It’s also far outpaced the sales of the original games that it remastered, The Red version on Game Boy Advance and Blue version on Nintendo DS came out in 2006, coming in at 14th and 34th respectively.

Of course, things have shifted toward digital downloads since then, but it’s still a good, strong week for Nintendo and another case where Switch exclusives perform strongly. The Switch version of Minecraft was in 7th, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe in 8th and Luigi’s Mansion 3 in 10th. Last week’s Two Point Hospital, which was admitted in 2nd place on the back of strong Switch sales, has slid to 6th after a not-so-nice 69% drop in sales.

After a flurry of Q1 games being delayed back in January, it’s all been pretty quiet on the game charts over the last month or two. That’s set to change later this month though, and it’ll be interesting to see how Ori and the Will of the Wisp performs at retail considering how it’s being rolled into Xbox Game Pass, and well have to see how Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Doom Eternal face off on 20th March.

Anyway, here’s the top 10:
