Peaky Blinders: Mastermind is the next game from Futurlab

Last year, Futurlab revealed it was going to be working on something a bit different to the likes of Velocity or Tiny Trax. The studio announced it was going to tackle something much bigger and that would be Peaky Blinders. For those not quite aware the Peaky Blinders is a TV series centered around the Shelby family in Birmingham post World War I. They’re no ordinary family but a criminal enterprise that rules its local streets. You may wonder how Futurlab would tackle such a violent subject and I bet a top-down action puzzle game was not your first game. That is what Peaky Blinders: Mastermind will be.

Peaky Blinders: Mastermind is a top-down title where players will control six characters simultaneously each with their own skills. Tommy will be able to threaten people, Arthur will be brawling and kicking doors in, Polly can bribe and pick locks, John also does some brawling but also takes part in arson, Ada acts as a distraction, and Finn can sneak and pickpocket. All of these skills will need to be utilised through each level for a successful outcome. The events of the game itself take place before the first season of the Peaky Blinders TV show, and the main angle is that you are planning events in Tommy’s head before they actually take place.

Peaky Blinders Mastermind’s game director James Marsden said:

“There’s a point in the show where Tommy Shelby explains he has no concern for the past, nor the future; all he cares about is a crucial moment he calls the soldier’s minute. We designed our game around that idea, allowing the player to plan actions backward and forward in time, choreographing an ensemble cast of characters to synchronise their actions during these crucial moments. The player gets to feel like the smart and sophisticated leader that Tommy is, so we think becoming the mastermind will resonate with fans of the show and gamers alike.”

Peaky Blinders Mastermind will be available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Switch in the summer. It is available to wishlist on Steam now.

  1. I wonder if you can use the same tactic they always use in the show:
Bite off more than you can chew, take a beating and then make a deal with someone more powerful.
