Jesus Christ, there’s a Pope simulator coming to PC and consoles

Last year we had the reveal of I Am Jesus Christ, a video game in which you play Jesus as get to heal the sick, cast out demons, and be resurrected, but that’s old news because Playway and Forestlight Games are making a Pope simulator.

I’ll just pause for ten seconds while you all toddle off and check the calendar just to make sure it’s not April 1st.

Back? Good. So then, The Pope: Power & Sin is real and it’s coming to PC, PS4, and Xbox One this year and promises betrayal, murder, and sexy naked ladies. Not quite what you would expect from a Pope sim but that’s because this story is inspired by the life of Rodrigo de Borja, who served as the pope between 1492-1503 under the name of Alexander VI.

Take on the role of the Pope, strengthen the authority of the Church State, fight for spiritual and political independence from pagans and the renewal of administrative church structures. The rule of Alexander VI is a torrent of numerous scandals, excesses and signs of moral corruption in the highest authorities of the Church.

Alexander VI seems to be more of a mafia boss than a pious religious figurehead, your job is to expand your territory, dispose of enemies, collect taxes to become richer, and “above all, take care of the family.”

“Difficult times require quick, often violent decisions. Eliminate heretics who undermine your holiness,” say Forestlight Games, adding “Remember that you have God on your side, so any decision can be right.”

With almost every vehicle, from buses to tractors, getting it’s own sim game, as well as hospitals, hotel renovations, and logging operations, developers are looking further afield for the next big sim hit. The Pope is a radical choice, perhaps less so than Jesus himself, but still a bold move.

  1. I had to check the date to see if it was 1st April!

  2. Having seen the I Am Christ sim I expected to come to this article for a bit of a laugh, however, now I’m intrigued! I’m not exactly a fan of religion, but this looks pretty good with the addition of diplomacy and what looks to be like quite a bit of dialogue. The graphics are beautiful too. Not what I expected at all!

  3. And the advert in the middle of the article was offering me a free Messianic bible!

  4. Does he sh!t in the woods though!? Sorry.
