Sony has dropped a bit of news regarding the future of its PlayStation exclusive titles. That news is the formation of PlayStation Studios, a new brand name that will incorporate all of the PlayStation exclusives under one umbrella. The announcement came via a video showing the opening animation for the new brand. It is a short animation which features the likes of Uncharted’s Nathan Drake, Horizon Zero Dawn’s Aloy, Ratchet & Clank, God of War’s Kratos, LittleBigPlanet’s Sackboy, and The Last of Us’ Ellie before transitioning to the four iconic shapes, and then into the brand new logo which is the simple PS above the word studios.
The aim of the brand is to get all first party titles under one unified brand. Of course, that doesn’t meant that all of Sony’s first party studios like Sucker Punch, Guerrilla, Santa Monica, Bend, Insomniac, Naughty Dog, and the rest will be losing their identity. This will just make it easier for Sony to really clarify what titles are PlayStation games. Of course, that does not mean we will not see the games produced under the PlayStation Studios brand on other platforms. After all, Horizon Zero Dawn is going to be released on PC this summer along with Death Stranding. This marks the fact that Sony may be more open with its game catalogue in future, an approach that Microsoft has adopted in recent years with Xbox exclusive titles going multi-platform and ending up on Switch.
This could also be the signal that Sony will soon be giving us more details about the PS5. Earlier today, the company debunked claims that the PS5 would be released in October following a job posting that appeared online. The company stated that had been an error by the recruitment company it had hired to post the job listing.

For a moment there i got excited and thought there was another Uncharted in the works – and there might be – but by the time i got to LBP i realised it probably just means legacy games that will be backward compatible, or possibly be made available for pc.

LBP on PC would be amazing!

Looks good, and makes sense lot of sense, brand-wise.

So if the PS5 and it’s SSD are really as fast as they’ve been claiming, someone at Sony has a choice between “instantly load the game” and “wait 17 seconds for this thing we copied from Marvel”?
