Original Story:
It looks like the Microsoft Store has spoiled a surprise announcement that THQ Nordic may have had up its sleeve. Today, the store has listed Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning, a remastered version of the 2012 RPG by 38 Studios and Big Huge Games. You may remember that there was some controversy around the development of Kingdoms of Amalur which saw 38 Studios go bankrupt, with this game being its only released project. THQ Nordic has the rights and it has been releasing a lot of remasters, so Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning is par for the course.
The description for Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning reads:
The hit RPG returns! From the minds of the bestselling author R.A. Salvatore, Spawn creator Todd McFarlane, and Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion lead designer Ken Rolston, comes Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning. Remastered with stunning visuals and refined gameplay Re-Reckoning delivers intense, customizable RPG combat inside a sprawling game world.Uncover the secrets of Amalur, from the vibrant city of Rathir to the vast region of Dalentarth to the grim dungeons of the Brigand Hall Caverns. Rescue a world torn apart by a vicious war and control the keys to immortality as the first warrior ever to be resurrected from the grips of death.
Additionally, the store has listed the game to be released on August 18th, 2020. According to the features list Kingdoms of Amalur Re-Reckoning has improved graphical fidelity, and will include all of the DLC such as Teeth of Naros to Legend of Dead Kel as well as other DLC items. Back in 2012 Jim review Kingdoms of Amalur Reckoning and wrote:
38 Studios has made a triumphant debut with Reckoning, but there is a long way to go before the Amalur IP reaches its full potential. The combination of an MMO open-world structure with hack n’ slash combat mechanics works well if a little patchy in places; weapons are in dire need of more combos, and the block/dodge system also lacks the finesse of its contemporaries.
These are issues that can easily be ironed out however, though the same can’t be said about the game’s underpinning lore. Sporadic in pace and quality of content, this is the area in which Reckoning borrows too heavily from its MMO ancestry and it really doesn’t pay off.
