SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated will have a multiplayer Horde mode

SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom will have a multiplayer Horde mode, THQ Nordic has confirmed. In this mode players will face off against evil Robo-Squidward in pairs either online or locally. Players will have the option to play as one of seven characters, each with their own ability, and fight across 26 different islands.

The original version of the game, released in 2003, was published by the original THQ before they went bust. It was developed by Heavy Iron Studios but this new version is being handled by Purple Lamp Studios. The original was released on PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube and features a story in which you defend Bikini Bottom from a robot invasion, but there was no horde multiplayer mode. THQ Nordic has been buying up and bringing back franchises for a while now, itself having risen from the ashes of THQ. The company owns a huge number of franchises now including Destroy All Humans, Titan QuestKingdoms of Amalur, Carmageddon, Red Faction, MX vs ATV, and Darksiders. Earlier today, the Microsoft store leaked a Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning remaster.

SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom will be released on June 23rd for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Switch.
