The robots in disguise are back and they’ve swapped allegiances. No, not Autobot and Decepticon, they have moved from Activision to Bandai Namco and are now starring in Transformers Battlegrounds which is being developed by Coatsink.
“TRANSFORMERS: BATTLEGROUNDS is a new and authentic take on what a TRANSFORMERS video game can be,” says Mark Blecher, Hasbro SVP Corporate Strategy and Business Affairs. “It’s exciting for us to bring the epic story of the battle between the Autobots and Decepticons to life for a new generation of fans on console.”
So just what is Transformers Battlegrounds? Well, here’s some blurb.
As the evil MEGATRON closes in on the Allspark, BUMBLEBEE and the Autobots need a new commander to help save Earth, as they team up and roll out into battles that will rage from Central City to Cybertron in both single player and multiplayer action.
Still none the wiser, so I can also tell you the game is a “tactical warfare adventure”, which also does not help. It looks like it might be a strategy game of some sort given the isometric viewpoint, but we don’t actually know.
The screenshots and trailer show many major characters including Grimlock, Arcee, Soundwave, Windblade, Shockwave, and of course, Optimus and Megatron. The designs seem to closer to those seen in the recent cartoon series rather than the movies or G1, which is fine, but what is not fine is that Optimus’ axe is blue and Megatron’s mace is red. This just won’t do, make them orange and purple you awful developers!
Transformers Battleground launches on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC on October 23rd.
There is another Transformers game on the way, Transformers Online, which is being developed by Certain Affinity. the game was officially announced by Leyou at the Chinajoy 2019 convention and has been confirmed to a be a third person shooter. They specifically stated that Certain Affinity was working on the the game which is for consoles and PC and it will be free to play.
