Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics hosted the first Marvel’s Avengers War Table stream, and during proceedings there were two major showings. One of those showings was a brand new story trailer that gives more background about what has happened, as well as giving a bit of a tease for the supervillain MODOK who is the primary antagonist. The other showing is gameplay from one of Thor’s early story missions which is called ‘Once An Avenger’ and shows him returning to the Helicarrier ruins to battle once again.
Aside from the footage some new details regarding Marvel’s Avengers was announced. One of those is that there will be a number of costumes for the characters, with those coming from comic history as well as new costumes designed for the game. These costumes will not be cosmetic only in nature. Each one will have different impacts on the powers and abilities of the characters and will mean adjusting on how to approach the missions.
It was reiterated that the Hero Missions will be single player only to showcase each characters abilities. Players will be able to squad up in groups of four in War Zone missions as any of the Avengers. Players can play solo with AI companions too. Each Avenger will power up with the squad together. Post-release players will get new heroes, regions, and story arcs as free updates. You can watch the full stream below.
Recently, Crystal Dynamics announced that Marvel’s Avengers will be coming to both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and if you buy the current gen version, either digitally or on disc, you will be able to upgrade to the next-gen versions free of charge (within a given console family.. They also confirmed the game will have cross-gen play so PS4 and PS5 players can team up, and Xbox One and Xbox Series X players can team up.
Marvel’s Avengers launches on PS4, Xbox One, Stadia and PC on September 4th and will be available on PS5 and Xbox Series X when those consoles launch a little closer to the end of the year.
