Team17 are celebrating the 25th anniversary of their venerable Worms franchise this year, and while the actual party won’t be coming until 17th November, they’re getting the pre-pre-pre party started with a new update for the classic Worms: Armageddon. Or more accurately, their fans are, with patch 3.8 being a fan-made endeavour!
First releasing over 20 years ago in 1999, Armageddon is getting a new update made by its fans. There’s tons of new features and changes, including the ability to modify the game physics, the introduction of CPU teams to online matches, match replays being saved, and Mapshot, which allows you to start a new game on the land decimated by a previous battle. They’ve also shored up the game with improved Windows 10 and Linux support.
A staggering seven years in the making, patch 3.8 features 370 fixes, 45 changes and 61 new features.
It comes just after the reveal of Worms Rumble, the real-time online multiplayer game for 32 worms that was announced for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC at the start of July. The game is currently in closed beta on Steam, running over the weekend until 8AM BST on Monday 20th July.
