LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga delayed to 2021 – check out the new gameplay trailer

Update: The delay has been confirmed. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is now coming out in early 2021. At least we got a look at the sublime, comedy-filled LEGO spin on the franchise in a gorgeous new gameplay trailer. The game is also confirmed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X.

The original story follows…

The latest instalment in TT Games’ long-running LEGO Star Wars series won’t be making its 2020 release date according to a leak over on the official LEGO website.

The product page for LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga stated that the game was “coming 2021” but has since been edited to remove this information.

An exact date for the game’s release was never formerly announced by TT or Warner Bros. Interactive. Shown during last year’s E3, we knew that it wouldn’t launch in time for Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker but had expected it to be on the slate for this holiday season.

LEGO, nor TT Games have come forward to address the supposed leak regarding the new 2021 release date. However, with LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga due for its big Gamescom 2020 gameplay reveal later today, it seems very likely we’ll get an update then (as well as word on PS5 and Xbox Series X versions).

For those keeping track, 2020 is the first year in which Traveller’s Tales haven’t released a LEGO game in a long, long time. The British developer has continued to pump out sequels, spin-offs, and ports, working on a number of legendary properties including Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, The Lord of the Rings, Marvel, DC, and of course, Star Wars.

However, it must be said that The Skywalker Saga is a different kind of LEGO game compared to what we’re used to. Although it carries that same cheeky humour and platforming fun it’s way bigger in terms of scale, and we’re not just talking about the number of locations or playable characters being crammed in.

Having seen the game being played during a demo at last year’s E3, LEGO Star Wars: The Skylwalker Saga doesn’t follow that same trademark TT formula. Each of the planets you explore are their own open worlds teeming with missions, collectibles, and other side activities. The way you control characters and vehicles has also been jazzed up considerably since the last LEGO Star

  1. Perfectly fine with me, rather they took the time, particularly with something as epic in scale. Lego Movie 2 took a bit of a hit in creativity from what I heard so if it’s next year with more polish all the better.
