Armature Studio has announced that its narrative adventure Where The Heart Leads will be released on July 13th for PS4 and PS5. In the game players take on the role of Whit Anderson, a family man who ends up in a sinkhole that is also a portal that lets him explore his past, present, and future. On this journey different decisions can be made that impact the course of his life.
Founder and director Todd Keller had this to say:
“What you will and won’t see, I do not know. Even in testing the game, many of us ask each other, “How did you end up there?” Creatively, it’s been a huge challenge. The game has expanded almost of its own accord, past our original 5-hour goal to now over twice that. Each player might only see a fraction of the game on their original playthrough, and that’s okay, because it’s your story. The differences span chapters, so while not immediately apparent, small things could lead up to huge deviations.”
According to Armature there are over 600,000 words in the narrative for Where The Heart Leads. More words than the Lord of the Rings trilogy, which puts that into perspective. That is due to the amount of branching paths that the game can take due to the thousands of choices available in the game which in turn means there are dozens of endings to find. Some choices will have immediate payoffs while other consequences may not be noticed until further down the line.
