Scars Above has been revealed by Mad Head Games and new publishing label Prime Matter. An exploratory sci-fi action adventure, the game is set for release in 2022. Here’s a good seven minutes of gameplay showcasing the many aspects of Scars Above.
You play as Kate Ward, a scientist and member of the Scars, an elite team of astronauts that was sent up to investigate a mysterious artefact that was found in orbit. Unluckily for the Scars, they get transported to a strange alien world, crash, and have to survive, forcing Kate to go all 2013 Tomb Raider while searching for her team and a way off the planet.
The gameplay demo shows Kate having to adapt to the world, scanning the environment to discover various hidden mechanisms. I’m also reminded a little of Returnal, which also dropped an astronaut on an alien planet and forced her to survive, though that’s more thematic and a little bit visual than in terms of gameplay, which feels quite a bit less frantic. This action adventure is not a roguelike!
This could be a game to keep an eye on when it’s released next year.
