Original Story:

It looks like the official Nintendo website has jumped the gun early by confirming a sequel to Mario & Rabbids: Kingdom Battle. This sequel is called Mario & Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, being developed by Ubisoft and it is set to be released in 2022. Much like Mario & Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, Mario & Rabbids: Sparks of Hope will be a strategy title in which players will be able to select from a roster of nine heroes to create a team of three. You can check out three official screenshots from the game below.

According to the listing on the Nintendo website, this is what players should expect from Mario & Rabbids: Sparks of Hope.

Team up with Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Rabbid Peach, Rabbid Luigi, and their friends on a galactic journey to defeat a malevolent entity and save your Spark companions. Explore planets throughout the galaxy as you uncover mysterious secrets and compelling quests!

  • Build your dream team with three heroes from an eclectic roster of nine.
  • Take down all new bosses, along with some familiar enemies throughout the galaxy.
  • Rescue the adorable Sparks throughout the galaxy, who provide distinct powers that will help you in battle.
  • Unleash your heroes’ skills but be strategic as you dash your enemies, team jump on your allies, and hide behind covers.

Mario & Rabbids: Sparks of Hope will feature language support for French, German, English, Italian, Spanish. Interestingly, the number of players is currently undetermined making room for multiplayer support for the game. Hopefully, Mario & Rabbids: Sparks of Hope will be a strong sequel to Kingdom Battle. As strange as Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle sounds on paper, there are some really good ideas in the mix. Having XCOM’s battle gameplay presented in a more light lighthearted fashion and greatly enhancing character movement are both excellent touches. It’s not perfect, but there’s a lot to like from this unlikely combination.
