Developer Iron Gate has confirmed that the first big update for Valheim, titled Hearth & Home, will be released at some point in Q3 2021. The developer also gave a brief overview of what players can expect with the update, including changes to the food system where recipes will give boosts to health and stamina. In addition, there will be new food recipes available for wolf meat as well as new dishes including Eyescream and Shocklate smoothie. You can check out some of the features that will be coming in Hearth and Home below.
- New build pieces – Darkwood roofs and window hatches
- New food system – food will be split into specific boosting categories of health and stamina, making food choices more important based on your playstyle
- New cooking station extensions – spice rack, butcher table, pots & pans
- New foods to take advantage of the new system and cooking station – more than 10 new recipes including Eyescream, Shocklate smoothie, various wolf meats, and more
- Plantable onions with pretty onion flowers
Following the launch of Hearth & Home, Iron Gate will release the Mistlands update which will bring even more content. As a result of working on both Hearth & Home and Mistlands smaller content updates will not be done for now. In an AMA on Reddit, the development team answered some questions about other content. It was confirmed that the team is looking into adding more ship options but there is no timeframe for when that will happen. The same goes for more animals in the game as both elements will require extensive testing. Iron Gate is also looking into a system that will allow players to delete items they do not want.
Valheim – top 10 tips and tricks beginner’s guide
We recently went hands on with Valheim, Thomas sharing some thoughts on his time with the early access build of this up-and-comer:
Valheim, while a bit rough around the edges, has a number of genuinely nice touches to its gameplay. When cooking food, you have to actually stand by it as it cooks and take it off when it’s ready – leave it on for too long and you’ll be left with a piece of coal – but stand by a fire in a cramped space and you’ll start to die due to smoke inhalation. For a game that’s just entered Early Access, Valheim already feels like a mostly complete game.
The future feels bright for Valheim. With a solid arrangement of survival systems already in place, an engaging array of boss battles and plenty of extra touches, I can’t wait to see how the community shapes and guides this survival sim’s future development. This is definitely one to watch out for.
Will also had some things to say about Valheim’s appeal and you can read his thoughts in the article, “Valheim’s biggest triumph is its small realistic touches”
