Solar Ash, the next game from the creators of Hyper Light Drifter, will be skating onto PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC on 26th October, it has been confirmed.
Solar Ash takes place near to a black hole, with the gameplay all about speed and fluidity as you explore the large environments that are gradually being consumed. The protagonist, Ray, is a Void Runner, who’s deliberately heading into the anomaly in an attempt to save her home planet.
Alongside the smooth traversal, you also have moments of combat thrown into the mix, with both fleeting attacks thrown at lesser enemies that’s intended to blend in with the rest of the platforming gameplay. Then there’s the huge bone-like Sentinels that are encountered, quite likely inspired by games like Shadow of the Colossus as Ray has to scale them, weaken and strike at them.
Announced back in 2019, Heart Machine and Annapurna Interactive has regularly brought their game to Sony’s PlayStation events since then. It was one of the many indie games shown at last year’s PlayStation 5 gameplay reveal, and was then featured in a State of Play stream earlier this year.
It’s an intriguing game and we look forward to getting to play it later this year.
