Phoenix Point will be available next week, October 1st, on PS4, PS5, Xbox Series and Xbox One consoles, Snapshot Games has confirmed. The studio has also confirmed that Phoenix Point’s next big DLC, called Corrupted Horizons, will be available at the same time. On console, Phoenix Point will release as a Behemoth Edition and that will feature all four expansions including the new Corrupted Horizons one. In Corrupted Horizons, a new effect call corruption will be introduced which will impact a soldier’s will to fight. However, to counter this a new unit called Mutoid will be introduced and this unit is immune to the impact of corruption. Mutoids are able to take on traits of different classes, but do cost mutagens to create.
The PS4 and Xbox One versions of Phoenix Point have been reworked with an interface and control scheme that has been specifically designed for controller use. The game will also be playable on PS5 and Xbox Series consoles in 4K and at 60fps. The PS4 and Xbox One versions will run in 1080p at 30fps. In our review for Phoenix Point, Nick wrote:
Everything in Phoneix Point is fine, but that’s it. It’s just fine. Any game in this genre will always draw comparisons to XCOM, and while Phoenix Point is good, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I’d rather be playing XCOM instead. It’s like too much effort was put into creating fresh ideas, and yet it doesn’t manage to make itself feel truly different despite this. A lack of polish in some of the graphics and sound design just emphasise that feel. Phoenix Point is a good try at capturing some of that XCOM magic, but it falls short of being great. I found myself enjoying the experience, but at the same time, couldn’t help feel that something was missing. Hopefully it’s something that can improve in a sequel, if it ever comes.
