The trailer for Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City has finally dropped, giving horror fans a look at the series’ latest movie adaptation.
At two and a half minutes, the trailer gives us a proper first look at Welcome to Raccoon City including its main cast, zombie creatures, and familiar locales.
Releasing in cinemas on November 24th, the movie is said to follow the story of the original Resident Evil and its celebrated sequel, Resident Evil 2. That certainly shows, with memorable scenes from both games have been recreated, including the famous head turn when Chris/Claire make first contact with their undead enemies at Spencer Mansion.
We’ve yet to see just how far Welcome to Raccoon City will deviate from the plot of those original games. However, Sony Pictures Entertainment will no doubt have taken some creative liberties in weaving the two stories together into one cohesive narrative.
Here’s an official synopsis:
Returning to the origins of the massively popular Resident Evil franchise, fan and filmmaker Johannes Roberts brings the games to life for a whole new generation of fans. In Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, once the booming home of pharmaceutical giant Umbrella Corporation, Raccoon City is now a dying Midwestern town. The company’s exodus left the city a wasteland…with great evil brewing below the surface. When that evil is unleashed, a group of survivors must work together to uncover the truth behind Umbrella and make it through the night.
As both a horror film and a video game adaptation, there’s some hammy acting afoot. However, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City has a pretty strong cast.
- Kaya Scodelario as Claire Redfield
- Robbie Amell as Chris Redfield
- Hannah John-Kamen as Jill Valentine
- Neal McDonough as William Birkin
- Tom Hopper as Albert Wesker
- Donal Logue as Chief Brian Irons
- Avan Jogia as Leon S. Kennedy
- Lily Gao as Ada Wong
2021 has been a strong year for the Capcom gaming franchise. Resident Evil 8 scored a mighty 9/10 in our review with the Re:Verse multiplayer mode now coming in 2022 as well as a Netflix series starring series antagonist, Wesker.
