Elden Ring gameplay has reportedly been leaked, revealing open world footage from the upcoming action RPG.

The video – seen below – really doesn’t give away much. We don’t get to see any Elden Ring combat gameplay, nor any story or quest content. Instead it shows what is presumably early build footage of the player character travelling through the game’s open world. Note the compass at the top of the screen, guiding the player towards what could be the next objective or a point of interest.

Although convincing, it has yet to be confirmed whether the leak is legit. The leaked gameplay is said to come from the Xbox One version of Elden Ring, with more footage to come.

Elden Ring’s release date is currently scheduled for January 21, 2022. The game will available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

According to FromSoftware producer, Yasuhiro Kitao, development is coming to a close. In an interview with Famitsu, he shared some details on key game features and design aspects, commenting on the open world structure.

When the term “open world” gets mentioned, it’s hard not to picture games like Grand Theft Auto, Assassin’s Creed, or Far Cry, where maps are densely populated with icons, quest markers, and other activities. FromSoftware won’t be following their lead, believing that navigation and exploration should be a challenging part of the experience. Players will need to unearth map fragments and summon waypoints to help them get around, creating a sense of reward.

Like past Soulsborne games there will obviously be a major emphasis on melee combat though we’ve also seen ranged weapons and magic spells in action. Stealth mechanics similar to those seen in Sekiro will be featured in Elden Ring, too.

With the game rapidly approach its January release date, we’ll hopefully start to see more preview footage and demo playthroughs.
