Halo Infinite upated Battle Pass progression is now live [updated]

Update: The revised challenges are now live in Halo Infinite. They reduce many of the requirements for weekly challenges (though some will still be a challenge) and implement a simpler single match completion reward as the daily challenge.

343 Industries will be updating Halo Infinite’s free multiplayer this week with “targeted tuning” that specifically modifies the Battle Pass progression to try and meet player feedback from the last few days. The range of measures include adding a more consistent stream of challenges that reward you for playing a game, removing some of the trickier weekly challenges, extending the duration of XP Boosts and making bug fixes.

Making this update will reset all players’ progress through the weekly Challenges, so because of this 343 will grant this week’s Ultimate Reward, the Sigil Mark VII Visor to all players that log in from 23rd-30th November.

Halo Infinite Challenges

Halo Infinite’s challenge-based progression has been pretty unpopular.

Halo Community Manager John Junyszek explained what they are doing on Twitter:

To address the feedback on Battle Pass progression we will be making targeted tunings to our model later this week.

To start, we’ll be adding “Play 1 Game” challenges to help make sure you consistently progress through the Battle Pass by playing matches the way you want.

We’ll also be adjusting, fixing bugs with, and removing some Weekly Challenges based on your feedback. These tunings to challenge difficulty will help you progress through Weekly Challenges faster and thus directly speed up your progress through the Battle Pass.

When we make this update, we’ll need to reset your Challenges, including your progress towards Weekly ones. To make up for this reset, we’ll be granting this week’s Ultimate Reward, the Sigil Mark VII Visor, to everyone who logs in from Nov 23 – Nov 30.

Additionally, we will be doubling the duration of 2XP Boosts to now last 1 hour as opposed to 30 mins. We hope this helps people get the most out of them, especially during those longer BTB sessions.

We’ll be watching these changes closely to make sure they have the positive impact we all want on your progression. This is only our first step – we are committed to continue evolving these systems but it will take time. Thanks for joining our beta, and keep the feedback coming!

While Halo Infinite’s surprise multiplayer release has been largely met with praise, a few elements have frustrated players. There’s a few gameplay tweaks that cut against the series’ history (such as melee from flag and ball carriers not dealing one hit kills), but the biggest issue people found was with the slow rate of Battle Pass progression thanks to the gameplay challenges needed in order to progress. It’s great to see that 343 are almost immediately adjusting this while the game is still technically in a beta phase, especially as this season will now run for six months instead of three. It might be a “beta”, but I’d argue that since the game is free to play, includes all maps and modes, and that you can spend money on a battle pass with all of your progress carrying forward to the “full” release on 8th December, the multiplayer game is fully released.

The surprise release of Halo Infinite multiplayer on Monday came as Microsoft marked the 20th anniversary of Xbox and the Halo franchise, but there’s still a few weeks before the campaign arrives in December. Whether you’re diving into the free-to-play multiplayer now or waiting until after 8th December, Halo Infinite is/will be out for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC.
