WWE 2K22 has got a new teaser trailer giving the first proper look at the next game in the WWE 2K series. This teaser video highlights some of the features and innovations that players should expect in WWE 2K22, giving a brief glimpse at modes such as MyGM, MyRise, and Universe. There is also a look at the game’s new engine and thecreation suite which shows a brief sample of wrestler types that players can create. A quick look is also given to the revamped control scheme coming to WWE 2K22.
WWE 2K22 comes following the poor reception that WWE 2K20 received which in turn left 2K skipping out on WWE 2K21. Instead, a stop gap release was made through WWE 2K Battlegrounds. When the cancellation of WWE 2K21 was announced, 2K released a statement saying:
“We are applying what we’ve learned to the next WWE 2K simulation game with a renewed focus on quality and fun. As part of that commitment, we are extending the production timeline and will not be releasing a WWE 2K simulation game in 2020 (T2 fiscal year 2021). We want to ensure the development team at Visual Concepts can create a great game that will entertain grizzled WWE 2K veterans, as well as newcomers who want to climb through the ropes and step into the ring for the very first time.”
2K has confirmed that a lot more detail for WWE 2K22 will be coming in January, ahead of the game’s expected release in March 2022. Whether 2K has innovated enough to get past the errors of WWE 2K20 will remain to be seen, and that verdict will lie directly with the fans of game franchise. What we do know is that the roster is constantly changing as WWE lets go of talent, so who knows who will end up in the final game aside from the WWE powerhouses.
