Elden Ring is still tough yet less stressful – here’s how

Elden Ring will finally launch next month. Ahead of the game’s release, FromSoftware producer Yasuhiro Kitao has claimed it will be tough yet somehow less stressful than the developer’s previous titles.

He goes on to say Elden Ring is pretty much ideal for those who threw in the towel playing Demon’s Souls, Dark Souls, and Bloodborne. During a lengthy preview, he calls Elden Ring “the perfect title for those who have been interested in our games in the past, but who have been put off by concerns about the games being too difficult.”

How has FromSoftware managed this? In the gameplay footage we’ve seen in the build up to release, the studio’s combat and boss battles look as intimidating as ever. It’s been confirmed that there is no easy mode – though some have argued for it.

While these parts of the game will remain very challenging, FromSoftware’s open world design will be much more forgiving. Instead of running the same linear gauntlets to reach checkpoints, there are multiple ways to navigate Elden Ring’s map. In return, this will reduce that problem of grinding through the same path through the world until you reach a boss.

The sheer vastness of the world posed its own problems, in that the players must not be allowed to get bored, yet at the same time, placing a whole bunch of enemies everywhere would lead to constant fighting, which can be stressful in itself. The challenge was to place enemies in a way that would keep players interested, but still provide them with a low-stress experience.

Horses provide a stress-free method of traveling across the long distances the player needs to travel in the game.

Elden Ring will officially release on February 22, 2022 and will be available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The team here at TSA Towers can’t wait to get their hands on it, voting it our second most hyped game of 2022. See here for the full top 50 list.
