EGX Birmingham, has been cancelled, or as the organisers are reporting, “postponed.” It completely different show next year with different games, but they’re using the word “postponed” to make things sound better. The event was scheduled for March 3rd to 5th at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre.

Here is the statement from the organisers.

Hey Gamers,

It is with a heavy heart that we must announce the postponement of EGX Birmingham 2022. Given the current climate and the knock-on effects of Omicron, many of our partners and brands are not yet ready to return to live events. At the end of the day, we felt that we wouldn’t have been able to put on the awesome show you expect from us without them.

Thank you for your support during this challenging time, and to everyone who had worked so hard to try and make EGX Birmingham 2022 happen. While we are sorry we won’t be able to see you in March, we’re excited for EGX London and have more details on the great things coming soon.

Anyone with a ticket to EGX Birmingham 2022 will automatically receive a full refund within the next few weeks. For more information on what happens next, visit our FAQs.

Until we’re together again; take care, stay safe, and carry-on smashing through levels.

EGX London, which is scheduled for July 2022, is still going ahead, at least at the moment. The UK is pretty much Covid restriction free, but not free of Covid, and that seems to have affected the decision to cancel EGX Birmingham. Current guidance from a number of countries, including the United States of America, is not to travel to the UK as we’re a plague island at the moment.

EGX has not happened since 2019, with both the 2020 and 2021 events being cancelled. EGX Rezzed, the smaller, indie focussed event, has been cancelled completely and merged in to EGX Birmingham. Soon after the news of it’s cancellation a new event, WASD, was announced to take it’s place.
