Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical stars Laura Bailey and an Austin Wintory score

Summerfall Studios and Humble Games have announced Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical. It’s a new name for the game Chorus: An Adventure Musical as Humble’s funding is allowing Summerfall to become more ambitious with its combination of narrative-driven adventure and interactive musical.

Stray Gods follows Grace, a woman whose life is completely transformed when she acquired the musical talents and gifts of the Last Muse from ancient Greek mythology. She’s thrown into the secret world of gods and monsters who secretly live around us, using her musical abilities and choice in songs to navigate it.

Summerfall Studios has been able to draw in a whole host of big names to the game’s production. Created by former BioWare lead writer David Gaider, the game’s melding of musical with role playing is sure to be helped immeasurably by the talents of award-winning composing Austin Wintory. Meanwhile, it’s story-telling credentials are boosted by Troy Baker, but not in a role you’d expect to find him. He’s normally in a leading role as a video game character, but Troy is the voice director on this occasion. He should have an easy time of it with Laura Bailey the leading star.

Originally crowdfunded in 2019 when Gaider and Wintory’s involvement was one of the key draws, the game has now been renamed. Speaking of the decision to rename the game, Executive Producer Elie Young explained, “There were many reasons why we wanted to change the name. But the primary motivation was that as the project grew past what we’d originally envisioned, we felt it needed a fresh new name that better fits the game’s tone and themes. We realised what we were making was less of an adventure game, and much more of a roleplaying game – not an ‘RPG’ in the mainstream sense, but a game truly predicated on roleplaying choices, in dialog and in song. We feel that Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical is a much better reflection of what we’re making and where we want Summerfall Studios to head in the future.”
